Chapter 10

Amy's POV

When I awoke and walked into the kitchen, I was met by Tails, with his fur unkept

and bangs disheveled. He served some breakfast for himself.

He rubbed his eyes, revealing a drowsy face that longed for sleep.

He yawned and spoke with a slur. "Mornin' Amy. How'd ya sleep?"

I smiled at him; he probably woke up at 6:00 to work on some new design brought

into physical being. "Fine thanks."

I watched as the fox shuffled over to the counter to pour himself some orange juice.

"Want some breakfast?" He asked politely, stifling another yawn.

"Sounds good to me."

Tails got to work, moving quite fast and efficiently despite his obvious fatigue. Less

than 3 minutes later Tails produced a steaming plate of eggs and bacon. I almost

took my first bite of bacon when the scent became repulsive, and vomit filled my

mouth. I leapt up from my chair and slammed the door to the bathroom behind me.

Sonic walked in the room a moment later, looking over his shoulder at the

assaulted door.

"What's up with Amy?"

Tails shrugged, "She got sick again."

Sonic frowned, grabbing his own plate of food and resting on the table opposite

where Amy sat.

Sonic's POV

I tried to eat but with Amy retching in the bathroom, nothing seemed edible. Not
even chilidogs. …Okay…maybe chilidogs. So I mainly poked at the eggs with a prong

on my fork and fingered my bacon then letting it drop back onto my plate before I

heard the bathroom door open, swinging to reveal a sickly looking Amy, and frankly

one who didn't care.

"Urgh….guys? Thanks for the hospitality but I really don't feel well, and I think I've

overstayed my welcome." She gave a weak smile, and it highlighted the hollows

beneath her eyes and the matted condition of her quills.

"Nonsense, Amy. We love having you here. But if your feeling sick, it's probably

better if we didn't catch what you have." Tails said, concern lacing his voice.

I nodded, although I wasn't sure I liked the idea of Amy going home, and despite

myself, I knew it was partly because of Eggman's warning.

"If you need anything, just call. I'll be over in a flash." I offered.

Amy grinned softly, and made her way out the front door, trailing the path that lead

to her home. I watched her leave, her form slouching with the burden of sickness

(and the extra weight probably didn't help) and her feet shuffling against the dirt.

"You're worried, aren't you?"

I turned to look at Tails, who sat down beside me with his hands folded neatly

together.

"She is sick." I suggested.

"I'm not dumb, Sonic." I felt Tail's scrutinize and analyze my face the way he would a

blueprint, and I felt that with that mind of his, he could take every piece of me apart

and find out how it worked.

I rolled my eyes, hiding my uneasiness, "Obviously."

"I know you've been following her around."

I just looked down at my own hands, fiddling with my thumbs.

Tails took a long sip of his orange juice and placed it neatly on a coaster. "Have you

asked her?"

"Huh?"

"Have you just asked her what's wrong?" Tails repeated. "You're upset about it, so

why not just tell her you're worried and ask?"

I stared at him, dumbfounded. This was one of the moments that a light bulb comes

on above your head; and also one of those moments where you break the damn

thing and hit yourself with it for being so stupid in the first place.

Tails held up his glass to his mouth again before returning it to its designated spot.

"I'm taking that as a no."

I sighed and got up to retrieve myself some water, and Tails continued, fortunately

changing the subject.

"I wonder what Eggman meant yesterday."

Unfortunately, not changing it for the better.

"I dunno, maybe some kind of scare tactic?"

Tails shook his head. "Possibly, but I doubt it. I'm sure Eggman has his reasons, but I

Don't think he has any reason to try and scare us."

"Other than to convert the entire planet into the Eggman Empire."

"Yeah, other than that."

We sat in quiet contemplation for a moment, or, at least, Tails did, I just distracted

myself by looking at the mechanical objects that littered the room.

"It was directed at Amy."
I didn't say anything, just looked at a miniature model of the X-Tornado propped up

against a napkin.

"Is it good that she walks home all by herself then?"

I froze, and not a second later I flew out the door, not bothering to close it.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Amy's POV

A bird hummed a song that somehow found life in the sweltering heat. I wiped my

forehead free of the sweat that had collected there and then let my hand drop to my

belly.

"You really don't make this heat any easier, L.S." I scowled. Unconsciously I let my

fingers play at the fabric and dance along the hard surface of my stomach. I had put

on some more weight in the last couple weeks, and Little Sonic had taken up the

habit of kicking me awake. I had really grown attached to him, waited for him to

kick, hummed to him in the bath. II hadn't even seen him yet, and already I knew the

resemblance to Sonic, the hedgehog I loved so much. He was always active; like he

couldn't wait to get out into the world fast enough. I smiled. I had no doubt in my

mind how much I cared for Sonic, but that made it so important for me to hide my

secret. I loved him, and Sonic, I finally realized, deserved his freedom. I loved L.S., in

a different way then Sonic; I didn't love either one more, or split my love for Sonic,

but rather like my heart expanded, and for my miracle, I thanked Sonic. I knew I had

to make a choice, I was about four months along now, I was already substantially

big, but I could pass it off as weight gain for the time being, but I knew that wouldn't

last long. My stomach was beginning to take shape as a pregnancy belly, and even

Sonic, oblivious as he could be, would piece it together soon enough. I had to move

away. Away from Sonic. A lone tear stung my eye, but a summer breeze brushed it

away as it threatened to fall. I had made love to Sonic, and I knew, that at least a

little, he cared for me.  We may have been drunk, but they say your inhabitions, the

veil you place around yourself for society to see, is stripped away, and how you feel

is left raw for those who are willing to see it. I knew Sonic cared, he made a show of

hiding it, but when we were alone, he'd hug me. To those who weren't close to Sonic,

they saw a guy who thought of me as a friend, but when we were alone, I always had

the feeling he cared, that's why I never gave up. Even if he didn't give those signs, I

would still love him, and never give up in my heart. And that was why I always gave

thought to the idea my imagination had fabricated those fleeting moments Sonic

shared himself with me, until that night, it was confirmed. I don't know if he loved

me, but I know he cared, and so we made love. L.S. was the miracle of that, and I

would always see him as a reminder of his father when I went away.  There was no

wind to catch my falling tears, not this time. A dull ache was left, but I continued my

walk, each foot that preceeded the next digging into the upturned dirt beneath my

feet. I watched them, flattening against the earth and rising only to press against the

soil again. Soon I saw them shake, then some pebbles nearby scatter with vibration,

and a pounding throb of noise pervased my ears. I looked up, and saw a shuttle that

looked like a war ship. I reached around on the ground for something I could use as

a weapon, when a hand forcibly gripped my arm, stunning it into place between

movement. I looked up into a face shadowed by brown bangs, a glisten of fangs

flashed through the shadow the airship had overcast.

"Hey good-looking."
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Sonic's POV

I watched Amy perched from a tree a few yards away, listening to silent sobs and

watching her body shake in small spasms of depression. I felt my mouth curve

downward stretching my face in a frown. I bet its L.S. Why would Amy put herself

through this? What was so great about this guy that she would stay with him when

he made her cry? My stomach dropped as I realized that I had no idea how many

times she cried over me, I hadn't even thought about it.  A shadow cast overhead and

I shielded my eyes from the twigs ad leaves the wind shaft forced toward me. A

figure stepped out, and began to yank Amy in the direction of the entrance to the

foreboding shuttle. I bolted forward. It wasn't Eggman, the figure was too small. My

feet fell out from under me and my chest landed hard on the ground. I whipped my

head to face my assaulter who tripped me.

"What the hell was that-?!"

A hedgehog cupped his hand tight around my mouth.

"Shh." A deep, masculine voice spoke.

I struggled and ripped his hand off; but he was strong.

"What-!"

He pointed to the shuttle that was already too high to jump too.

I growled and began to speak a violent string of threats before he interrupted me

again.

"Don't mess with him alone, wait."

I turned from him and watched in despair as Amy drifted even farther away from

me.
